Holi in Braj, Pushkar’s camel fair, Thrissur Pooram’s elephants, Bhutan’s Paro tsechu. Lunar calendars checked against the almanac, and rooms held eighteen months out, before the dates are announced.

What we do

Almost none of these dates are fixed in the Gregorian calendar. Holi moves with the full moon of Phalguna, and the lathmar version at Barsana runs a week before the rest of the country. Thrissur Pooram falls in Medam, when thirty caparisoned elephants face each other and the parasols change at four in the afternoon. Kandy’s Esala Perahera is announced only months ahead. Paro tsechu unfurls its thongdrel before dawn on the last day and it is rolled away by sunrise. We watch the almanacs, hold rooms eighteen months out against provisional dates, and secure balcony positions, pass access and a guide who can tell you what is happening as it happens.

  • Rooms held against provisional lunar dates, eighteen months before the festival.
  • Balcony and stand positions bought early, with shade and an exit.
  • Cars parked outside the closure, with a walking route planned.
  • Clothes, cameras and colour advice sent before you pack for Holi.
