We do not sell everywhere. These are the places we keep offices, drivers and guides in, and where we can answer a question about a specific hotel room without looking it up.

How it works

Booking a journey should not feel like buying a product

You tell us roughly

Dates, how long, how many, and anything you already know you do or do not want. Two lines is enough to start.

We write a first draft

Within one working day: a day-by-day outline with named hotels and a firm price, written by the person who would run it.

We redraw it

As many times as it takes. Most journeys go through three or four versions. Nothing is booked and nothing is owed.

You confirm

A deposit holds everything. The balance is due eight weeks before you fly, and you get a full documentation pack.

What travellers tell us afterwards

The bit I still talk about wasn’t the fort. It was Devendra pulling over on the Bundi road at dusk so we could watch a flock cross, then knowing the shepherd well enough that we were handed tea in a steel tumbler. You cannot book that. Someone has to know the road.

Four drives, no tiger. On the fifth our naturalist Pankaj stopped the jeep and made us listen to langur alarm calls moving through the sal for twenty minutes before anything appeared. I have been on safaris where they just chase the radio. This felt like being taught something.

Tripfizz put an extra night into Phobjikha and I sulked about it for a week. Then we spent a morning in the crane centre with a monk who counts them, and the whole valley made sense. They were right and I was wrong. Also the driver, Sonam, never once used his horn.

Responsible travel

Tourism is the second job in half the towns we visit

Our drivers are on monthly salaries, not per-trip fees, so nobody is tempted to push you into a handicraft emporium for commission. We do not take shop commission at all — it is the single largest hidden cost in Indian tourism and we removed it in 2014. Guides are paid a day rate that does not fall in low season, when they need it most.

What we actually do about it

Tell us roughly what you want. We will send back something specific.

A first draft itinerary within one working day, written by the person who would run your journey. No deposit, no obligation, no automated follow-ups.
